Wireless routers and wireless access points are different devices the way they function and the security features they support. If you have already had a secure wired network and would like to extend it wirelessly, you can configure the RT-N13U as the wireless access point. There are many modems with built-in firewall (router) enabled which by default is a secured network from the internet threats (with the NAT and SPI features). Identify your existing modem in home if it includes the firewall / router function. To extend the network wirelessly, you just need a wireless access point. The good thing with this ASUS RT-N13U is that the AiDisk feature with the ASUS DDNS service that allows you to create an FTP server with a meaningful and easy to recognize like ftp://your-name.asuscomm.com instead of a hard to remember IP addresses or URLs. With this FTP server you can attach a USB disk to the router and share the files with friends easily no matter when and where the user is. ASUS RT-N13U wireless access point router includes a USB 2.0 port that can used to connect to the multifunction printer. You do not need a dedicated PC as the PC-print server that must be on all the time. In home, you can configure the RT-N13U as the router or as the wireless access point (depends on your modem feature).
