Burnout Isn’t A Badge: Smarter Ways To Recharge This Summer
It’s finally here—summer break!
After months of classes, projects, and exams, it’s time to breathe. But before you dive headfirst into a to-do list packed with language courses, internships, fitness goals, and five books you promised yourself you’d read… pause.
Let’s be honest. Somewhere along the way, summer turned into a productivity competition. Everyone’s doing “something”—and suddenly, resting feels wrong. But guess what? Burning out in the name of “being productive” isn’t cool. Burnout isn’t a badge of honor—it’s a signal that you need to slow down.
So How Do You Recharge The Smart Way? Let’s Talk.
1. Don’t Try to Do Everything
It’s tempting to fill up your calendar with everything you couldn’t do during the school year. Learn guitar, start a blog, read 12 novels, take French lessons, and learn to cook all your meals from scratch. Ambition is great—but overloading yourself leads to one thing: stress.
Here’s a better idea: choose two or three things you really want to focus on. Maybe it’s improving your drawing, finishing a book series, ...
... or finally learning how to edit videos. Give those a real shot. Prioritizing makes everything more enjoyable—and doable.
2. Watch More (Yes, More) Movies
Yes, you read that right. Watching movies can actually be good for you. Films are a fun and effective way to strengthen your attention span, boost your understanding of emotions, and expose you to different cultures and styles of storytelling. Not to mention, they keep you connected to pop culture—a huge part of modern communication.
Make it meaningful: Try different genres. Watch a foreign language film, a classic from the 90s, or a documentary on a topic that interests you. Then maybe write or talk about it—what you liked, what confused you, and what you’d recommend. Turn screen time into brain time.
3. Schedule Downtime (Yes, schedule it)
You plan your activities—but do you plan your rest? Having time to just lie down, listen to music, doodle, or do absolutely nothing is incredibly important. This kind of “mental breathing room” helps you process everything you’ve experienced during the year and reconnect with yourself.
Try this: Set aside 30–60 minutes each day where you don’t have to achieve or complete anything. You’ll be amazed how refreshing that can be.
4. Rest Isn’t Wasted Time
Rest is productive. In fact, it’s essential. It gives your brain the space to think creatively, problem-solve better, and feel motivated again. You don’t need to earn your rest—you deserve it.
Let This Be the Summer You Refuel
Summer is a gift don’t turn it into a checklist. Let this be the season you recharge, reflect, and maybe even rediscover what makes you you. Be kind to your mind, let your curiosity lead you, and remember: slowing down isn’t falling behind.
Now tell us—what’s one thing you’re doing just for you this summer?
