Diabetes is a disorder that is caused by excessive sugar in the blood. This happens when the body does not produce enough insulin to process the ingested carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

Diabetes Mellitus is the most common and there are three types of this disorder. Type one is also called juvenile onset or insulin dependent diabetes. It is common in young people when their bodies fail to produce any insulin or the insulin produced is not enough to regulate the sugar in the body. Type two is non insulin dependent diabetes that is common in older people. In this case, the pancreas produces insulin but the body is unable to use it. The third type is gestational diabetes that is experienced during pregnancy and it disappears after child birth.

Since diabetes is a nutritional disorder, most of its remedies involve having a healthy diet. There are a number of proven home remedies for diabetes which include -

Ash gourd mixed with sweet potato leaves - This mixture is boiled and then sieved. 5 sweet potato leaves and a tablespoonful of ash gourd are enough for one dose. It is taken as herbal tea.

Mango ...
... leaves - These are dried and ground into a powder. The powder is boiled and taken as herbal tea. Alternatively, you can soak the leaves overnight and drink the solution in the morning before taking anything else.

Curry leaves - These leaves are chewed raw in the morning before eating anything. 10 leaves every morning are enough.

A mixture of ground bay leaf and turmeric each in half table spoonfuls mixed with a tablespoonful of aloe Vera gel taken twice a day before meals heals diabetes.

Amruth juice - This should be taken in the morning before having breakfast to ensure it is absorbed fast. Amruth is powder made from ground fish-berry.

Fenugreek seeds - 100 seeds are soaked in 250 grams of water for 8 hours. The mixture is the pounded and strained and the extract juice is taken for two months to heal diabetes.

Bitter melon (karela) - Half a glass of karela juice or eating salted karela after frying thrice a day for two months is a proven cure.

In addition to the above remedies, exercise is very essential. This is because it increases the energy consumption of the body thus reducing the excess sugars in the blood. Exercising for 45 minutes everyday helps in reducing the sugar level.
