Protecting the logo identity of a company is very important so that the same logo is not used by anybody else. Every big company has a unique logo which they own it exclusively. No one would wish that it gets used by any other company. For this purpose it is essential to copyright them in order to protect it.
None of the company or organization would like to lose their business to someone who has copied their logo and is selling its products under their brand. As the competition is very stiff, safeguarding and protecting one's logo from plagiarism is the first thing to do when you create one for your business. It protects and creates your brand identity so that other people cannot use the same logo for their individual benefits.

Most of the times people take copyright protection and trademark protection as similar things, but in reality both are different. Copyright protection protects the brand identity which covers the logo, and trademark protection secures the marketing slogan and logo of a company.
According to the rules of US copyright office, copyright protection can be given to only those logos that ...
... have required amount of paternity, which clearly states that logos that have common symbols with only variations in fonts are not liable for it.
So if you want to safeguard your logo then it should be unique in design and creativity. Companies who use logos from any free online source or word clipart directory would not be able to get copyright protection.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken for safeguarding your logo which includes marking your logo as copyrighted entity of your company. This would avoid from others copying it by mistake or give statuary warning for those doing it purposely.

In case you run a company in joint venture, then decide on important issues with the other partner like who would own the logo if one partner decides to part ways in future, so that later on problems regarding copyright issues do not arise.

Along with the company logo, you should also get your other promotional material secured against any fraud. For that you need to register it before you launch the company. Here you only have to fill in certain forms.

Please keep the proofs of your logo designs being created exclusively by your company. Also the application documents of registration process shall be kept. There are many fake companies who do not hesitate to steal any good brands logo to market their products in the market, so if you want that no such companies take advantage of your name and brand image, then go for copyright protection of logos.
