2 Years Of Indiahandmade: Empowering Artisans, Weavers And Handmade Dreams
Two years ago, Indiahandmade.com emerged as a digital revolution—reviving age-old craft traditions and empowering artisans and weavers across the nation. Launched under the Ministry of Textiles and developed by Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Indiahandmade is not just an e-commerce portal—it’s a national mission to preserve and promote India’s handmade heritage.
The idea was simple yet powerful: create a zero-commission, zero-registration fee and free-shipping platform where artisans earn 100% of the selling price. Rooted in the ethos of Vocal for Local, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India, the portal gives a digital voice to over 60 lakh artisans and weavers.
In two years, Indiahandmade has achieved remarkable milestones:
• 2,500+ artisans onboarded
• 15,000+ handmade products uploaded
• 13,000+ registered users
• Mobile app launched for sellers and buyers
• Integration with ONDC for wider visibility
• Special GI and ODOP sections to promote regional crafts
• National seller training, packaging SOPs and logistics tie-ups
What ...
... sets Indiahandmade apart is its personalised seller support—from registration to catalogue creation, order fulfilment to returns. Regional language assistance, regular training sessions and a dedicated backend team ensure smooth operations.
Despite early challenges like packaging inconsistencies and delivery delays, the platform quickly introduced SOPs, workshops and a robust feedback loop to streamline services.
The journey has been backed by strong government collaboration—from the Ministry of Textiles to state nodal departments, DC Handlooms and DC Handicrafts. National recognitions like the Technology Sabha Excellence Award and Gems of Digital India Award further validate its impact.
With widespread media coverage and endorsement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indiahandmade continues to shine as India’s only government-backed, zero-commission marketplace for artisans.
As it steps into its third year, the platform is gearing up to expand geographically, add new craft categories and enhance mobile features—ushering in a brighter future for handmade India.
