Suzhou was built in 514 BC and you can still feel the thousands of years of history as you visit its main sites. Suzhou has more than 60 gardens in the city and you should visit a garden as part of your China tour.

Humble Administrators Garden
The Humble Administrator's Garden is listed as one of the Cultural Relics of National Importance. Built in 1509, in the Ming Dynasty style, it was designed as a private retirement garden for a government official who envisioned it as a place for humble gardening. Water features, ornamental rocks, pavilions and landscapes make it one of the best gardens to visit in China. There is a bonsai garden that shouldn't be missed. This magical garden is a photographer's paradise.

Lion Grove Garden
This garden was built in 1342 by a Zen Buddhist monk and his followers. The Pavillon for Greeting the Plum Blossoms is a place that attracts painters and poets. It is surrounded by plum trees and the inside is decorated with plum blossoms. One of biggest attractions in the garden are the rocks placed to resemble lions in different postures. Winding pathways go in among the rocks, ...
... pines and cypress trees.

Lingering Garden
This 6 acre Qing-style garden is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Built as a classical private garden, it is over 400 years old and features magnificent buildings and beautiful landscapes. Visit the Celestial Hall of Five Peaks, the largest building in the garden. You can explore the rockery, the maple forest and the half-mile corridor that connects the parts of the garden. Take a look at the stone calligraphy engravings on the corridor walls.

These gardens are of some the best to visit in Suzhou. But there are many others to be explored on your China tour.
