Winterize Wisely
There are several ways to winterize Jetters for cold weather. While some people use RV antifreeze, we prefer windshield washer fluid! Our Hot Jet Trailer Jetters come with a built-in antifreeze system to simplify this process. The windshield washer fluid is the same type used in cars and trucks and is widely available at Walmart and most auto parts stores. Be sure to check the freeze temperature rating on the container to ensure it suits your climate. Another method is to connect an air supply and push pressurized air through the valve on the pump head, which helps clear out the water. You can use any air compressor for this or keep a compressed air tank on hand for convenience.
For gas-powered jetters, it's important to keep the fuel tank full, just as you would with any vehicle during winter. We recommend using fuel additives to counteract the effects of ethanol. If the equipment will be stored for more than 30 days, it's best to drain the fuel tank, as well as the oil in the engine and pump. These precautions help prevent freezing damage and ensure your jetter remains ready for use. Before restarting ...

Transportation Tips
When using your jetter in winter, ensuring proper winterization becomes even more crucial. In extremely cold temperatures—20°F and below—some operators preheat the holding tank with heated water and run the machine, cycling the water back into the tank to prevent freezing.
For those with hot-water-equipped jetters, turning on the unit with the burner running and cycling hot water through the system helps prevent freezing while also preheating the water tank.
At the end of each job during winter, it’s essential to either reapply antifreeze to the system or keep the machine running to maintain water circulation between jobs.

Storage Solutions
Storage options vary based on your specific situation, including the type of jetter you own and the space available. While truck and trailer jetters may have the advantage of being stored in a garage or other sheltered areas, finding suitable storage for portable and cart jetters can be more challenging.
If you need to leave a trailer jetter or a portable jetter in the back of a truck, covering it with a blanket can provide some protection from the elements. For cargo box trailers parked outdoors, a small electric heater may help keep them warm. However, exercise caution when using electric or portable heaters—ensure the electrical connection is secure and weatherproof. Since portable heaters are a leading cause of winter fires, always verify that yours meets safety standards.
The general recommendation is to store your jetter in a heated garage or building whenever possible. It doesn’t need to be large or elaborate—a single-stall, well-insulated garage will do the job.
For long-term storage, be sure to either drain the fuel from gas-powered jetters or use a fuel additive. We also recommend changing the oil in both the pump and the engine to ensure the equipment is properly serviced before its next use. If you have a hot water trailer jetter, the same applies to the diesel fuel—keep in mind that all fuels begin to degrade after just 30 days, so either treat the fuel or drain the tanks.
For trailer Jetting Equipment, whether hot or cold water, keeping the battery charged is essential. Using an inexpensive trickle charger will help maintain battery power, ensuring your jetter is ready to go when needed.
