The church of Santa Maria Assunta is a beautiful place in which to escape from the midday sun. It is most famous for its large dome, bejewelled with majolica tiles. The church is also home to many fascinating local legends. Ask for a guided tour if you would like to learn more about them. It is arguably the most eye-catching architectural site in Positano.

From the 31st July to the 10th August, Positano hosts a vibrant theatrical festival, featuring performances from a variety of theatre companies spanning a vast range of genres, eras and even languages. Even those with no or little grasp of the Italian language are sure to enjoy some of the more visual comedies and it is a great experience to attend events that are clearly to eagerly anticipated by the locals.

The Amalfi coast is a fine place for Italian dining. Salads are garnished with fennel leaves giving them a distinctive, aniseed flavour that many travellers choose to bring back to their home cooking long after they leave. Fresh seafood is in plentiful supply and available at very reasonable prices, thanks to the fertile coastline of the Amalfi region. And, ...
