These regions dictate what type of back pain that the patient feels. Focusing on back pain as a whole - as each area has its own classification of what type of back pain the patient is a victim of - it can lead to a variety of health problems that may not seem particularly relevant to back pain. This includes such thing as poor bladder (or bowel) control, insomnia and loss of coordination.
Generally speaking, back pain is only considered as chronic if it has lasted longer than 12 weeks. By stating that the back pain is chronic in nature, it is not specifically attributed to the level of pain. However, the longer the pain persists then the greater chance that the patient is likely to suffer problems in the future that may be a result of long term back pain. Back pain can be a symptom of a fairly serious problem. Back pain has been associated with metastatic cancer, osteomyelitis and a range of abscesses. Although the odds of this being the case are fairly minimal as most people who suffer back pain do so because of poor back care that stems from improper ergonomics or a pulled muscle that is not directly associated with ...
... back pain - however it is an easy mistake to make if the muscle is in the general vicinity of the back bone.
However, back pain is not limited to the back as such. Pain that originates in the back can spread into the shoulders, arms and legs. The pressure caused by back pain can also lead to migraines or severe headaches. Because of this (and if the symptoms are long ranging) it is appropriate to seek out a medical professional quickly in order to diagnose what the problem is. Because of central role of the back in regards to the transfer of signals from the brain to the rest of the body - risking long term damage to the spinal column is not something anybody would want to do.
If you suffer back pain it is also wise to reduce the amount of time that you are laying around dormant. Because this can then lead to your back becoming stiff and a loss of muscle strength that support the back - it can actually generate more pain and cause the supporting muscles to being atrophying. That said, try and avoid long stints of strenuous activity that may require you to exert your back. The majority of adults go through some form of back pain; however, a lot of the time this is just due to stress and poor back care which is easily avoidable.
