Of the many churches of note in Zurich, the Grossmunster church is especially worthy of your attention thanks to the works created around the church by some of the finest craftsmen and artists in Europe, if not the world. A Romanesque church, it features an Augusto Giacometti designed choir window, as well as glorious Otto Munch designed bronze doors.

Fraumunster church. This ancient church dates back to 853AD, but is most famous for some of its more recent additions, such as stained glass windows designed by Augusto Giacometti, the five part cycle in the choir and the rosette in the southern transept by Marc Chagall, and a massive pipe organ with 5793 pipes.

A church that dates back even further than the Fraumunster church, is St. Peters Church. Its Baroque features mix with Romanesque and Gothic designs to create a truly unique architectural structure, featuring works by Franz Schmuster and Salomon Burkli.

Culture vulture keen to learn more about Zurich and Switzerland as whole must make a trip to the fantastic Landesmuseum, or the Swiss National Museum as it is also known. The architecture is astounding, ...
... reminiscent of a fairytale palace, and the collections of Swiss artefacts and artworks are a marvel.

There is much to see and do in the old district of Zurich, and one of the most popular attractions here is the Schanzengraben. These are what remain of the 13th century fortifications that once surrounded the city and walking the length of them makes for a fascinating afternoon tour.

The Reitberg Museum. This museum, which is dedicated to art from beyond the continent of Europe, is one of the best of its kind in Europe, and one of the most popular draws for tourists and locals alike in Zurich. It features a constantly changing calendar of exhibitions from around the world, as well as some permanent exhibitions.

Fashion lovers can happily spend the day splashing their cash, or simply enjoying a spot of window shopping in what is possibly one of the most expensive streets in the world. New York has its Fifth Avenue, while Zurich has its Bahnhofstrasse. Every designer and luxury brand has a flagship store here, from Dior to Tiffany and everything in between. Our guide to the best attractions in Zurich was written by Bonny Kominek, a professional tourist guide. They recommend checking the Octopus Travel website for the latest Zurich hotels.
