If you're like most folks, you already know you should brush your teeth. Doing so twice daily is crucial to your smile's good looks, not to mention its long-term health. Still, have you learned which toothbrush is best for your grin? Your Jersey City practice will gladly help you settle this point. To that end, keep reading to learn about the different types of toothbrushes and which one suits your smile.

Toothbrushes and Their Types
While toothbrushes may seem generic, the truth is that they come in various types. These differing kinds have distinct sizes, shapes, and specialties, so which one you use will affect your oral health. That means you'll want to consider your choice of toothbrush carefully.

The most common toothbrush types include the following:

• Manual – As the "traditional" kind, manual toothbrushes have been the ones most used throughout history. They now come with soft, medium, or hard bristles, as well as differing lengths and shapes. Most people find them accessible, affordable, and effective teeth cleaners.
• Electric – Electric toothbrushes tend to be more convenient ...
... than manual ones. Because their bristles vibrate and oscillate, they prove easier to use and clean teeth precisely.
• Interdental – An interdental toothbrush isn’t meant to be used alone; it’s basically a supplement to your “main” one. More specifically, it reaches the parts of your mouth that a “normal” toothbrush often can’t.
• “Baby” – Per their name, baby toothbrushes are those designed for infants. An adult can gently use them on a baby’s teeth to prevent plaque buildup.
• Travel – A travel toothbrush is used when you’re “on the go” and away from home. Much smaller and simpler than an average one, it’s not designed to be your main brush. However, it can accommodate your oral care needs while you travel.

Which Toothbrush is “Right” for You?
No type of toothbrush is absolutely “better” than all the rest. Each kind has strengths and weaknesses, so the “right” one for you depends on your needs.

Indeed, different toothbrushes are often ideal for different preferences. If you like to have control over your brushing, a manual toothbrush with soft bristles could be your best option. On the other hand, an electric type may suit you if ease and convenience are your priorities. You should also seriously consider a travel toothbrush if you often travel away from home.

Whichever toothbrush you get, always replace it after three months of use (or if the bristles wear). Otherwise, feel free to consult your dentist about which option would help you most!
