The Dental Implant Procedure
There are times when standing out can be a good thing. This is especially the case if you are standing out because of something uniquely good that you have - a soft, shiny hair, alabaster skin, or legs that seem to go on for miles. There are also times when standing out can be a bad thing - mismatched clothes, shoes that have not been polished for ages, or teeth that are so unnatural that a 4-year-old could easily recognize it as a fake.
For many years now, dentists and their patients alike have searched for ways to replace lost tooth without having to announce to the world that what they have is a replacement. Although dentures are able to mimic real teeth, poor fitting dentures can easily be spotted for miles. This is aside from the fact that they could induce gagging in people who has not worn dentures before.
Fortunately, changes in technology has given birth to something that is as close to a natural set of teeth as you can get without the discomfort of having to remove your dentures every now and then - dental implants. Dental implants are artificial tooth root that periodontists place into your jaws in order ...
... to hold the replacement tooth or bridge. Unlike removable dentures, they do not rely on surrounding teeth in order to stay in place.
Before one can have a dental implant, the dentist Bartlett has would have to check if the patient is eligible for an implant. In order to be eligible, the patient must have a good general as well as oral health. His or her gums should also be free from any diseases and there should be sufficient jawbone to hold the implant.
If the patient is okay for a dental implant, the dentist would then refer him or her to a Memphis implants specialist, or what is commonly known as a periodontist. Depending on what your condition is as well as the type of implant that would be used, the periodontist, together with your dentist, would formulate a treatment plan. There are five scenarios that periodontists and dentists work on - replacement of a single tooth, replacement of a few teeth, replacement of the whole set of teeth, sinus augmentation, and ridge modification.
Once the implant has been done, dentists Bartlett has would work with the periodontists and give you pieces of advice on how to take care of your new set of teeth. Keep in mind that, although they are implants, you still have to take time to brush, floss and gargle in order to keep your other teeth from forming plaque.
