If you are a fan of motorbikes, you certainly must have heard about custom motorcycles and how they are built. Created to perfection, most of these great bikes are built by hammering and slicing up. Okay! So, you have started to imagine yourself hammering up your own two-wheeler.

Most times, passionate bikers who like to experiment with their pillions like to scroll through the millions and trillions of images that show up on the internet; however, narrowing down on a choice to craft the most perfect pillion model can seem daunting, unless you have honed up the art of creating custom motorcycles in Brisbane.

We know how you have been burning the night’s oil, to create a head-turning two-wheeler, that is supposed to set the road on fire; but did you know that a lot of expertise and knowledge go into the process of making a sliced-up bike, that is almost the same as you have imagined?

Your Project “Bike” Needs…
Wondering about the skillset and expertise required ...
... for a one-of-a-kind motorbike? Here we are to talk about how any motorbike customisation expert would go about. If you delve deep into the project, you will find heaps of information on the internet about the multitude of choices available on custom parts, seats, tanks and much more. Depending upon what you want, whether it is a chopper, bobber, or a tracker, find yourself parts that will electrically and mechanically suit the design of a bike.

Choosing what parts are required for your kind of motorbike, will demand you to go through intensive research. We all know you have set-up a model in your mind, but for all of it to take shape, you need research.

Research on What?
We all know how comfortable you are, with Google and there is no dearth in the fact that this search engine will pretty much find you all the answers you require. If you are already smitten by a particular model or make, and want your project to stay on it, we will suggest you go through that specific-model related forum, where you can easily find information related to designs, parts, and performance. Invest an hour or two on a particular forum that speaks about your model; find out the ways through which you can disassemble a specific part of the engine, and get the whole thing assembled thereafter. Of course, there is no second thought about how certain essential books can come to your rescue.

Your Technical Knowledge and Drawing Skill
When it comes to customizing motorcycles, experts first work out on blueprint of the model they have on head; and so, should you be doing the same. Remember there will be a lot of modification and fabrication happening. So, it is very essential to have a proper sketch done before you take off on your project. Sketching is vital before you take the motorbike under the knife; there will be some irreversible cuts happening in the next few hours and this could turn expensive if you are not sure where to press the knife.

The best part about sketching is, there are a lot of intuitive software applications available, which are easier to use and powerful. Mechanical engineers mostly use them to design motorbikes and cars. Meanwhile, there are tutorials and tools which you need to read through before you reconstruct a motorbike.

Workshop Equipment
Remember for each build, a mechanical engineer will need a place to store the motorbike, because the reconstruction process is going to require hard work, tools and a great platform that must be dedicated solely towards its recreation process. This platform is no ordinary one as it helps measure the full-length of the motorbike, and the materials to be used. Furthermore, it is the place for you to accurately nail or screw a part. Hydraulic platforms are necessary in this case.

Do You Have Mechanical Skills?
Working out on a refabrication process, especially when it comes to Harley Davidson, Java and others, you need to know how to get intimate with several types of hand tools like screwdrivers, wrenchers, pliers and a lot of others. If you do not have them yet, do not worry. There are some great quality hand tools made from better quality steel, and fabricated for improved heat treatment. So, bring them in and get started.

What about Electrical Skills?
Yes! You need oodles of it now that you are about to fabricate an entire motorbike. The electrical systems on a motorbike will cover details which mostly include wires, connectors and heat shrink. Also, the digital multimeter which is designed for measuring voltage of a bike, must be considered. Consult with forums and books to earn knowledge on the subject.

Understanding Metallurgy
Before you think that your job is done, it is crucial you understand how the metals work with their specific properties. Remember, you need to select metals as per your application. Always work with the right set of metals because metallurgy is a different branch of science that demands knowledge about engineering. Some of the commonest of metals used in the refabrication process include, steel and different types of alloys. Aluminum and bronze too are important for re-making of a motorcycle.

Your Fabrication Skills
We know how painstaking it is to give shape to a piece of metal sheet. A lot of cuts, bends and shrinks are going to take place as you go about with your engineering skills. From drilling holes and putting the pieces together to handling bolts and screws to make complex assemblies, the operation will need you to give shape to your desired motorbike through intricate methods, which also include welding and riveting.

Giving Shape to the Metals
Your next set of skills would require you to offer shape to the metals in use by means of “Cuts” and “Bends” the processes give different shapes to flat sheets. We understand how time consuming and effort-intensive the methods are. Additionally, it would also mean giving them shape with stretching and shrinking.

Welding Skills
Make even more radical alterations with welding skills. You can either use TIG or GTAW; we would rather ask you to go for the second as it offers a lot of flexibility in terms of the thickness of metals in use.

Advanced Machining Skills
When it comes to fabricating a new motorbike, you will need to know which special part is used for what. While some parts are specifically meant for front wheels of your project others need to be at the rear sets. Either way you will need to handle specific machineries like the lathe or the milling machine.

For almost every other motorbike refabrication process there is an increasing need for preparing the surface for painting and polishing. If you want to save on time, powder coat your guy or simply paint him. After you are done with the stripping, welding, cleaning, and sanding processes to give rise to a modified motorbike, it is time you come to the reassembling part and give it a good final finish with a good paint. Last but not the least do not forget to polish it, so that your motorbike achieves the final touch for a desirable appearance.
