Using Foam Gun Applicators For Diy Jobs

One of the most useful tools for DIY insulation and filling jobs is the foam gun applicator. This trigger design makes it much easier for you to apply a smooth, constant flow of sealants and expanding foam to surfaces. Although sealants and expanding foam canisters do come with their own applicators these can be awkward to use and you may end up with unnecessary mess and wastage. Foam gun applicators are cheap and reusable and are a valuable tool for anyone undertaking remodelling work on their homes.
Foam gun applicators are also much easier to use when you are filling or sealing difficult to reach places such as behind taps. Once you have finished using one canister you can simply unclip it and replace with a new one.
Using Foam Gun Applicators
You can use foam gun applicators with both silicone sealants and expanding foam. When you are using silicone sealant you do need to wear a face mask as these products can give off harmful fumes. You should also wear protective clothing and gloves. To start using the foam gun you need to prepare the nozzle and the silicone sealant tube as follows:
- First ...
... you need cut the nozzle with a sharp blade according to the size of the gap that needs to be filled. The nozzle is longer than it needs to be and can be cut to suit the job you are doing. The nozzle will be tapered so the closer to the base you cut the larger the application hole will be. It is important to ensure the hole is big enough to produce enough of the sealant (but not too much) when you are applying the product in a smooth, even line to fill the gap. By cutting the nozzle at a slight 45º degree angle you can make it much easier to apply the product smoothly to the gap you need to seal.
- Now you need trim the end off the silicone tube and attach the prepared nozzle.
- Take the foam gun and pull back the pressure rod to allow you to place the silicone sealant tube in place. Once you have fitted the tube gently squeeze the trigger until the pressure rod meets the base of the tube.
- Make sure the area you are filling in is prepared and then you can keep squeezing the trigger until the silicone sealant just starts to breach the nozzle.
- Now you can start applying the silicone by running the nozzle along the gap as you carefully squeeze the trigger to dispense a smooth line of the product.
The process is similar for foam guns, although if you are filling are larger cavity then you may need to use a tank of expanding foam and a different applicator gun design.
Foam gun applicators can make it much easier to achieve an even, professional looking finish to your home remodelling jobs. This useful tool allows you to get into hard to reach places and apply expanding foam and sealant quickly and cleanly.
