India Bolsters Spin Attack With Varun Chakravarthy For England Odis Ahead Of Champions Trophy
In a strategic move to strengthen their spin arsenal ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, India has included mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against England, commencing on February 6, 2025.
Chakravarthy, who recently showcased exceptional form in the T20I series against England, emerged as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 14 wickets at an impressive average of under 10. His ability to deceive batsmen with his unique variations has made him a formidable force, with English batsmen particularly struggling to read his deliveries.
The decision to bring Chakravarthy into the ODI fold comes after endorsements from notable cricket figures, including veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin had previously advocated for Chakravarthy's inclusion, stating, "We are all talking about whether he should have been there (Champions Trophy squad), I am thinking there is a chance he might be there. I have a feeling he might make it."
With Chakravarthy's addition, India's spin department for the England ODIs now comprises five options: Ravindra Jadeja, ...
... Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy. This depth provides the team management with ample choices to finalize a potent spin combination for the Champions Trophy, with the squad submission deadline set for February 11.
The ODI series against England is scheduled as follows:
1st ODI: February 6 at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur
2nd ODI: February 9 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack
3rd ODI: February 12 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
As India gears up for the series, all eyes will be on Chakravarthy to see if he can replicate his T20I success in the 50-over format and solidify his place in the Champions Trophy squad.
India has added mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy to their squad for the upcoming ODI series against England, aiming to bolster their spin options ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Chakravarthy's recent stellar performance in the T20I series, where he was the leading wicket-taker, has earned him this opportunity. The ODI series begins on February 6, 2025, in Nagpur.
