Sounds are nothing uncommon in a home environment. The music system might be blasting from another room or the television might be in the living room. Your dog might be barking at something or your housemaid might be cleaning the utensils.
Hence, if your home is not designed in a right way, all these sounds might create noise which might be irritating to the ears.
Empty areas reflect sound. If your home has high ceilings, ceramic tiled floors, many glass windows, with less upholstery, the whole house will commence echoing with sounds. Even a low voiced telephone conversation will echo to the person on the other end.
Bouncing pitch
Sounds also need a space of their own. If they don’t have a place to rest, they will bounce back with more noise. Hard surfaces bounce back sound waves while tender surfaces absorb the decibel level. Sound comfortably reverberates off glass surfaces. If you have glass windows, cover them up with heavy sound dampening curtains ...

or even light; render ones with pelmets to muffle the sound. Paintings or pictures with glass might add to reverberate sound also. Look for paintings without any glass sheet.
Carpet cancelling
Carpets and wood helps to absorb sound. There might be a huge carpet in the living room and cushions of thick fabric on the sofa. Potted plants or huge urns may be placed in the room corners of the band room. If you have a book case, you might keep small statues or tree on the shelves. If you have sufficient space, you might add shelves on the walls and fill them with artefacts, books, and plants from wood rather than those that is made of glass, ceramic or metal.
Noise cancellation is a process of reducing and completely cancelling the unwanted sound, so that you can’t hear it. This technology is now an integral part of acoustics. These days, modern lives are full of noise types. Most of it is dangerous for our ears. This is mainly the case with people living in major cities or towns. They have quite less peaceful times during the day and they look for the best soundproofing material.
In the kitchen, throw some washable floor carpets on the floor. Get potted plants or herbs on the counter and lest you have a bookshelf, put the cookbooks and plants on the shelves.
Double glazing is quite effective just like sound dampening curtains, as a couple of layers of glass which is thereby sealed to the frame are more effective than a single glass pane.
This may be further improved by installing another window or glass pane in the windows opening next to the double glazed unit, and this is also known as secondary glazing and not to be baffled with acoustic baffles. The secondary window glass pane will usually open by a sliding mechanism.
