India, the third-largest emitter of CO2, faces severe environmental challenges due to rapid industrialization and urbanization. This has led to deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and increased pollution, disproportionately affecting the poor who depend on natural resources for their livelihood. The continuous increase in population exerts negative pressure on natural resources, leading to deforestation and environmental degradation. The Spherule Foundation's tree plantation drive aims to address these issues by promoting afforestation and green infrastructure, preserving biodiversity, improving soil quality, reducing pollution, and empowering local communities.

The Miyawaki forest method will be employed to mimic natural forest growth, engaging local communities and employees in the process. Post-plantation care and protection of saplings are also crucial components of the plan.

The expected outcomes of the drive are significant. It aims to enhance air and soil quality, reduce local temperatures and pollution levels, increase wildlife habitats and biodiversity, improve livelihoods for local communities, and contribute to carbon offsetting and climate change mitigation. India plans to plant enough trees by 2030 to absorb an additional 2.5-3 billion tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. Currently, the Spherule Foundation is implementing a plantation drive of 10,000 plants in Pune, with 1,500 plants already planted in Dighi hills and 10,500 in Pirangut. The foundation aims for a 90% survival rate of the planted saplings, using scientifically calculated methods to ensure sustainability. Employees from various companies will participate as active volunteers, with each sapling associated with an employee, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.

The Spherule Foundation has a strong track record in environmental conservation through several tree plantation drives in different parts of the country. In Pune, under Dighi hills, a plantation drive of 10,000 plants is currently in progress, with 1,500 plants already planted in Pune and 10,500 in Pirangut. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to increase green cover, control global warming, reduce pollution, and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
