Companies should take steps to prepare for the audit by ensuring that the practices abide by the social accountability standards embodied in the Social Accountability certification. These are the key steps to prepare:

1. Learn the standards relating to SA8000
Orientation to the SA standards, wherein critical areas like child labor, forced labor, health and safety, freedom of association, discrimination, working hours, and remuneration management, shall be an indication to understand these criteria and how they are complied with.

2. Creating and Updating Policies

It may also serve as the groundwork for consultation with an external expert who is familiar with the SA8000 process.

9. Engage Stakeholders
Have all of your stakeholders on board with the SA8000, including external ones like suppliers and subcontractors. Suppliers, for instance, should also be in compliance with the social accountability practice, and companies should ensure that their supply chain complies with the same.

In this manner, the company will be ready for its SA8000 audit, and gradually, one can reach the certification that speaks volumes about ethical business practices, labor conditions, and social responsibility.
