There are some people in the world who love flying with a passion. Whilst they might seem hard to understand, these individuals love to think about the type of curious, not-quite-edible ?meal? they might be served on the plane; they wonder what movies will be playing, how long it will take.

But there are other kinds of relationships we have built with flying ? in particular, many of us see flying as an extremely commercial opportunity. Whilst some individuals are perhaps less enamoured of the flying experience, the airport experience suits them just fine. And this is no doubt because flying and its international reaches has meant that the airport has become a shopping destination in its own right.

Who would have thought that the twenty-first century would be the era in which stations, airports ''passing through'' places themselves can become attractions? Indeed, until 2007 Britain''s busiest airport, Heathrow, had its own visitors centre, open since 1995 offering tours and histories of the airplane and air travel in Britain.

The visitors'' centre is sadly no more. Today the building is a conference and facilities ...
... centre so for those looking to kill time before a flight, it''s time to find something more interesting than riding the shuttle bus all the way to Heathrow Terminal 5 and back. But if you have the cash and the time, you could stay busy,

Whilst the controversial new terminal 5 has had its fair share of problems, one of the certainties is that travelers love to spend when they are at airports: and such certainty has seen Heathrow rapidly transforming itself into an out-of-town department store.

With the added bonus of tax-light duty free prices, Heathrow has cleverly struck up deals with innumerable big brands and London attractions so that Harrods and Burberry now sell their wares at reductions on their inner-city prices. Some of the biggest names of Kensington and Oxford Street are now one-stop shops for those zipping in and out of the country! Bonny Kominek is an expert in travel and aviation. They recommened Octopus Travel for Heathrow hotels.
