Fun Activities In And Around Nerja
As Nerja is situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Almijarra, keen walkers will find plenty of fantastic walking opportunities. You can pick up a handy free guide to the walks in and around Nerja from the tourist information office close to the Balcon de Europa, as well as details of the Nerja Walking Club, or Senderismo de Nerja.
There are plenty of shops to explore around Nerja, but a more exciting place to shop s at the many street markets in the area. As well as great places for bargains, you will also find traditional local food and truly unique items at markets such as the Boatyard Market on Sundays and the Tuesday market at Chaparil.
There are several churches in Nerja, and perhaps the most visited are the 17th century El Salvador Church, close to the Balcon de Europa and the 16th century Nuestra Senora de las Angustias Hermitage, where you will find painting by Alonso Cano.
Located on the coast, Nerja has plenty to offer by way of beaches, with over 13km of sands for you to enjoy. The most popular is the renowned Playa Burriana, which has been awarded a Blue Flag by the European Union for its ...
... facilities and cleanliness. A more secluded spot, with coves and caves is Playa Torrecilla.
A popular day out for budding chefs and especially with young children, is available at the Sticky Fingers Cookery School. Housed in La Parra Restaurant at Playa Burriana, you can take a cookery class and then enjoy your efforts every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, while children get to try their skills in the kitchen every Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Many hotels and tour operators run specially organised day trips and activities across Nerja. Among the most popular are jeep tours of the Sierra Almijara, which are a great way to explore the local mountains without tiring yourself out. Or explore the seas around Nerja with scuba diving classes and tours taking place at Burriana Beach.
Take the chance to learn some Spanish while you are in Nerja by taking a short Spanish course at the Centro de Idiomas Quorum. The friendly and encouraging staff will teach you basic Spanish in no time, helping you appreciate the local language and your holiday in Nerja even more. Our guide to our favourite activities and attractions in Nerja was written by Bonny Kominek, an experienced tour guide. They recommend checking the Octopus Travel website for the latest Nerja hotels.
