August 15, 2024, was the 78th anniversary of Indian independence, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands celebrated with great grandeur and pride. The islands, known for their rich history and cultural variety, banded together to commemorate the country's hard-earned freedom.

Flag Hoisting Ceremony

The day began with a big flag-raising ceremony at the Netaji Stadium in Port Blair, which was attended by Central dignitaries, officials, and residents. Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), raised the flag, which was followed by a procession of police officers and schoolchildren.

Cultural Events

The joyous celebrations were followed by a colorful cultural program that brought forth the special cultural identity of the islands. This ranged from traditional dances and music shows to folk songs, which really showed the diversity of the islands.

Homage to Freedom Fighters

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Cellular Jail, a place where India's freedom fighters were incarcerated. The program paid respect to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the freedom of India.

There were a lot of community events, including blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, and sports tournaments, that were carried out across these islands to inculcate the spirit of unity and social responsibility.
