Now that the summer is well and truly set in, it is only natural that the world of fashion has already started directing its uber stylish sunglass-adorned vision towards the colder seasons of autumn and winter. With the collections already firmly in place, here are a few predictions for the rest of 2010:

Last season the jumper dress truly came into its own with two distinctive styles - the chunky knit dress and the sleek body-con look. This season, it seems highly likely that the jumper dress will be back with a new twist for us to try. Perhaps the soft, pastel-dominated, layered look will translate into winter wear and drapery will once again become an important dressing technique.

The winter coat is one of the most important purchases of the season and this year it seems the trend is predominantly androgynous. Short and boxy styles battled with oversized, masculine designs to steal the limelight this year.

Regardless of season, the ankle boot and the ubiquitous shoe boot have remained popular throughout. Ankle boots are sure to play a major part in many of the Autumn/Winter collections this year.

It''s ...
... always good to stock up on a few new winter accessories every year. When it comes to scarves, the longer the better. Do your fashion research and pick one of the season''s most important colours to bring a splash of colour to your new winter wardrobe. Then, if you like, invest in matching hat and gloves.

One stress-free route to effortless style, and a look that has remained popular for several years running now, is layering and draping. Choose muted and neutral shades with perhaps one bold, coloured item - either jewellery, a scarf, shoes or a bag - and simply keep adding layers until you are sure to keep the cold weather at bay. This is a great trend for fans of low maintenance fashion.

As for accessorising, bold jewellery is the way to go. Huge tribal necklaces, knuckle duster rings, over sized metallic cuffs and heavy earrings are certainly the way to go.

For affordable versions of your favourite trends, look to high street stores such as New Look, who specialise in making the major catwalk looks both wearable and affordable. Barton Loi is a freelance fashion writer and retail therapist. They recommend New Look for ankle boots.
