Cyprus is a historical place. There are many places here which are steeped in historical significance. This island is located in the centre of the ancient world, popularly known as cradle of western civilisation and it is because of this reason that many tourists come here to study its interesting history. There are mosques here which you can visit. The most famous of all and the one often visited by almost all the visitors or the tourists here is the Lala Mustafa Pasa Mosque. You will find peace here. The mosque said to have been named after the leader who siege to the city in 1571. It is said that it was formerly a church by name: St. Nicolas Cathedral. There many other mosques which are known for their historical significance. Hala mosque is the most revered Muslim shrine in Cyprus. It is an holy site for all of the Muslims living in northern Cyprus. It reportedly houses the tomb of Umm Haram, the aunt of the last Prophet Mohammad. Most of the visitors who know come to pay a visit to this secret shrine.

Other things that can be of interest to the tourists are Bellapais abbey in bellapais monastery village.
