The military trend has been with us for a couple of years now, but tended to have a more flamboyant 80s edge. 2010 sees designers still looking to military wear for inspiration, but this time looking back to military wear from the early part of the twentieth century.

The look of First and Second World War uniforms is a far cry from some of the military-inspired menswear we have seen in recent years. Far more austere and functional, think more muted shades and cleaner cuts, to give a subtler overall look.

One aspect of military wear that is going to be big this season is the aviator style. As well as the ubiquitous aviator shade, the aviator jacket is a must-have for the autumn and winter seasons. With the military look, the key is not to overdo it. You do not need to look like you are heading off to the Somme or fighting side by side with the Red Baron. The great thing about military wear is its functionality, which means that it is easy to wear. Just add touches by throwing on your military coat, a khaki shirt with epaulettes, or your trusty aviator boots.
