The Enclave By Rohit Manchanda - Sublime Harpercollins Blockbuster
The Enclave is perhaps one of the best novels that has been written in a very long time. The award winner author Rohit Manchanda is known for his free style of writing. Each of the chapters in the novel is filled with some kind of emotion that seems to resonate with any single woman living in most of the metropolis cities in India.
The author seems to have studied his protagonist’s life. Sometimes, as readers go through the book, they feel that as if the author is speaking to them, through the protagonist. The book is set in Mumbai, and Maya is a single mother.
The prize-winning novel talks about how she had to deal with the daily rigors of living in a city all by herself. The author has this incredible ability to help readers visualise through the everyday scenes.
This is similar to viewing a top-notch director shooting an event in the living room. Lately divorced, Maya seems to be quite content with her single life, and is satisfied with her employment as well.
She has her share of close friends & lovers as well. Bombay seems to be a city that was destined for her, because she is getting ...
... everything that she asked for. Each of her wishes & dreams seems to come to her, at a price.
Sadly, all good things have to end one day. This is when things get challenging for Maya. She faces a massive mid-life crisis that seems to hit her out of the blue. She finds herself at the bottom of the barrel, not knowing what to do about it.
There is an opulent balance between observation and nuanced feeling. The novel encourages readers to think about the complications of identity, ambition, and the direction of one's life. The author has brilliantly given a vivid picture of a single woman who is living in a tough country India through a distinct perspective and distinctive voice.
The book has been critically acclaimed by noted & renowned Indian writers, authors, and poets including Amit Chaudhari, Pankaj Mishra, Sumana Roy, Amrita Mahale, Adil Jussawalla, Saikat Majumdar, and Tejaswini Apte-Rahm.
They have appreciated the book because it is addictive, coupled with exquisite transparent writing, along with fine-tuned dialogues, and rapturous as well. Readers may want to book a copy today itself.
