But is it a good idea to get everything you need from the same place. In terms of supermarkets, it is a lot more convenient and time-efficient for the customer to get everything they need under the same roof. If they need meat, they don't have to visit the butchers, if they need fruit and vegetables, it's no longer necessary to go to the greengrocers. All different types of products that a customer could need are all under the same roof. But could the same sort of system apply to energy supply? Is it really better for the consumer to obtain both gas and electricity from the same supplier on a dual fuel basis?

Weighing Up The Competition

A number of different suppliers offer the dual fuel deal, allowing their customers to benefit from supposedly better rates on their gas and electricity. EDF Energy , nPower and British Gas are just a few of the energy suppliers who offer better rates for customers who sign up to get both gas and electricity supplied directly to their home. If we take a closer look at British Gas as an example of companies that offer dual fuel deals, we can see that British Gas prices ...
... are as competitive as any of the other tariffs on offer. The thing is that the prices that each company offers are the only thing that really separates them from the competition. After all, the prices are the only things they can actually affect seeing as none of the energy suppliers can exactly offer a better standard of gas or electricity. In recent times British Gas have convinced existing gas customers to sign up to a British Gas Electricity Tariffs too, mainly because they had built up trust over many years with initial gas customers. After building that trust it was then easier to get their gas customers to sign up for British Gas electricity, on the promise that they would benefit from the dual fuel British Gas tariffs.

The Constant Bombardment Of Advertising

With the emergence of price comparison websites, many more home owners are going online to search for cheaper deals on their energy prices. They're discovering that it is possible to get a better deal on their utilities if they take up one of the suppliers on their dual fuel deals. As well as being bombarded with advertising for price comparison websites, we're also almost forced to look at what a supplier is offering when we go on their website. A visit to British Gas online will result in most visitors trying to work out exactly how much they're paying for their home energy supply because of the promises thrown at them about a cheaper deal being available.

Overall then, it has to be said that it is probably the case that a cheaper deal is available on a dual fuel basis. Then again, if you looked hard enough you could probably find a company called something like 'Mickey Mouse Utilities' who'll be willing to go even cheaper, even if you're only after electricity.
