Know The Different Types Of Water Pumps When Buying One For Your Home
In several areas, a residential water pump may be necessary at home to have a steady flow of water for domestic purposes. Whether you require good pressure for a shower, want water from a borewell, or water a lawn, home water pumps can make it happen. Let us understand what water pumps are and look at the main kinds of water pumps.
Overview of water pumps
Water pumps refer to mechanical devices designed to move water from one place to another. They are an integral part of residential water systems. They allow the distribution of water for domestic purposes such as drinking, cleaning, bathing, etc. Water pumps are mainly utilised to transfer water from a low to a higher elevation or boost water pressure.
Types of residential water pumps to choose from
Depending on your requirements, four different types of pumps are usually available. These include residential, agricultural, speciality, and solar pumps. Domestic water pumps are those used in homes for daily water consumption. They typically have high output and low power consumption, as electricity bills are generally a factor when using these pumps. A ...

• Compressor pumps: Compressor pumps are used in residential areas to move water where water yield is less. They can also be used in areas with loose soil. Compressor pumps usually pump compressed air down the delivery pipe to create very fine air bubbles in the water. This creates a mixture that is lighter than the surrounding water. This difference in density causes the lighter mixture of water and air to rise and move through the discharge pipe.
• Submersible pumps: A submersible water pump is usually the most well-known residential water pump. This type of pump generally requires less power. Submersible pumps can be submerged completely in the water of an open well or a borewell. They consist of a sealed motor made with corrosion-resistant materials that enable them to withstand prolonged submersion in water. These pumps eliminate the need for priming since they operate submerged and prevent air from entering the system for continuous water supply.
• Centrifugal pumps: Centrifugal water pumps are often considered one of the most reliable pumps for providing a consistent and strong flow of water. When these pumps are accompanied by a jet ejector, they form a centrifugal jet pump.
• Self-priming regenerative pumps: These pumps are used to lift water but do not need priming. For example, you can use them to lift water from a ground tank to an overhead tank. They are typically suitable when you require low-flow and high-pressure
• Booster pumps: Apart from a compressor pump, centrifugal pump, self-priming regenerative pump, and submersible pump, you can consider a booster pump. This type of pump is utilised when a pressurised flow of water is needed.
Conclusion
Now that you know about these residential water pumps, identify the one that matches your requirements before purchasing it.
