Travelers may now reach Tibet more easily than ever before. Once considered a "forbidden kingdom," a secluded Shangri-la in the skies, Tibet used to be. Tourists no longer had to make the difficult and drawn-out trek across dangerous mountain routes, which were made more difficult by Chinese officials' attempts to suppress or just hide from the outside world any evidence of the devastation inflicted upon Tibet under China's reign.

From interior China, access to Tibet has always been straightforward in terms of both policy and transportation. Since Tibet is an autonomous part of China, international visitors entering the region through gateway towns in interior China only require Tibet permission in addition to a Chinese visa. These cities provide a plethora of affordable airplane and rail alternatives to Tibet, making them popular domestic tourist destinations as well. Thus, why not take advantage of our China Tibet Tour package, which allows you to see these two distinct civilizations in one trip?

How ...
... to Get from Tibet to Inland China?

There are several significant hubs located inside interior China from which one may travel by air, rail, or land to reach Tibet. More than ten locations across the nation, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, etc., provide direct daily flights to Lhasa. All rail routes that travel through Xining will guarantee that you don't overlook the breathtaking scenery of the Tibetan Plateau en route. Another method to see this area at your speed is to go overland to Tibet.

Flights to Tibet from Within China

For expediency and convenience, flying to Tibet is the best means of transportation. Daily flights from major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming, Lijiang, Shangri-La, Lanzhou, Xining, etc., to Lhasa are many. And among these places, the most frequent flights into Lhasa with reasonably priced fares are from Chengdu and Chongqing. Over ten flights per day from the two cities to Lhasa are available during peak season. In addition to flights to Lhasa, a few cities—Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi'an—also provide flights to Nyingchi and Shigatse.

Train Options to Tibet from Inland China

Taking the Qinghai-Tibet train excursion may be a fantastic choice if your China Tibet Tours itinerary is more flexible. Travelers most frequently go by rail from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Lanzhou, and Xining, the eight interior Chinese cities, to Tibet.

Xining, the beginning of the Tibetan Railway, and a major transportation center of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, offers the shortest rail journey to Lhasa, taking about 21 hours. In contrast, taking the train from Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou to Lhasa takes more than 40 hours.

Routes via Land from China's Interior to Tibet

In addition to flying and using the train, you may also choose a driving trip throughout Tibet during your China Tibet Tour. There are now four land routes that connect Tibet with interior China. Two of the routes begin in southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan, while the other two routes begin in northwest China's Qinghai and Xinjiang.
