One case of disinformation involved a video falsely accusing Kamala Harris of a hit-and-run incident in San Francisco. The video, which garnered millions of views, was created by a Russian troll farm known as "Storm-1516." Similar efforts have targeted Harris’s political campaign, with fake news spreading about her policies and actions.

On the Republican side, Iranian groups have focused on smearing former President Donald Trump. One such group launched a covert website that published derogatory stories about Trump, while others engaged in cyberattacks against political figures.

This rising tide of disinformation underscores the need for social media platforms to be more vigilant in monitoring fake news and foreign interference. Without concerted efforts to curb these campaigns, the integrity of the 2024 elections may be at risk.
