If you have started your Mexico real estate search, you will know that there are many, many options, with a lot of variety. Picking an area you like is a good start - maybe you've been there, maybe friends have recommended it, maybe you can tell an agent how you imagine your life in Mexico, and they can point you to a suitable place. Other than that, there are a few points that you should consider to help you in the process of getting your search on track.

1. Know your Budget and Price Range

This includes everything from the sale price to mortgage payments and condo fees. Mexico MLS listings have a huge variety of prices, with homes, for example, starting under $50,000 USD going up into the millions, and there will be plenty of properties in the range that fits comfortably into your budget. Don't spend time looking at properties that are outside of your comfort range. On the other hand, if you have the cash, and you want luxury, no need to look at all the inexpensive properties too - unless your agent finds you ...
... a great deal!2. Keep Your Mind Open

Once you've given your agent an idea of what you'd like, give real consideration to suggestions for properties in different areas or different styles from what you originally thought about - maybe they're not for you, but on the other hand, you may find you're pleasantly surprised by an option you hadn't originally considered.3. Don't get Sidetracked by Insignificant Details

A lot of nice little upgrades might make the home or condo exciting to look at, but make sure you don't get sidetracked by these - focus on your real needs in the property (see point 4.) On the other hand, make sure you don't avoid considering a good property because the paint is the wrong color; if location, size and quality are right, some little things can be changed easily, and, since it's Mexico, cheaply!

These points are just a start; a key step in your Mexico real estate search will be to find a qualified and reliable agent who will help you find the property and area right for your needs. Take the time to find the right agent, consider their suggestions, and you will find that the rest will go much smoother.
