Afcat Selection Process 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Indian Air Force. It serves as the gateway for both male and female candidates to join the Indian Air Force as commissioned officers in flying, ground duty (technical), and ground duty (non-technical) branches. 1. Notification and Application
The AFCAT 2024 notification is expected to be released in December 2023. 2. Eligibility Criteria
a. Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India.
b. Age Limit:
Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years as of 1st January 2024.
Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branches: 20 to 26 years as of ...

c. Educational Qualifications:
Flying Branch: Minimum of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and a graduate degree with at least 60% marks or equivalent.
Ground Duty Technical Branches: A minimum of 60% marks in graduation and a degree in engineering or technology.
Ground Duty Non-Technical Branches: Graduate degree with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
3. AFCAT Written Examination
The written examination is the first stage of the AFCAT selection process. It consists of multiple-choice questions covering the following subjects:
General Awareness
Verbal Ability in English
Numerical Ability and Reasoning
Military Aptitude
Candidates applying for the Ground Duty (Technical) branch also need to appear for the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).
4. Result Declaration
The results of the AFCAT written examination are usually declared within a month after the exam. Candidates who clear the written test are called for the next stage of the selection process: the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview.
5. AFSB Interview
The AFSB interview is a comprehensive evaluation process that takes place at one of the AFSB centers located in Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, or Varanasi. The interview process spans five days and includes the following stages:
a. Stage I:
Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test
Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT)
b. Stage II:
Psychological Tests: Conducted by a psychologist to assess the candidate’s personality traits.
Group Tests: These include group discussions, group planning exercises, and outdoor group tasks.
Personal Interview: Conducted by senior officers to evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the Indian Air Force.
c. Stage III:
Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS): Mandatory for Flying Branch candidates to assess their pilot aptitude.
6. Medical Examination
Candidates who clear the AFSB interview are required to undergo a thorough medical examination at designated Air Force hospitals. The medical standards are stringent, and only those who meet the prescribed standards are considered for final selection.
7. Final Merit List
The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the AFCAT written exam, AFSB interview, and medical examination. The Indian Air Force then allocates branches to candidates based on their merit and preference.
8. Training
Selected candidates undergo rigorous training at the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, Hyderabad. The training duration varies depending on the branch of service:
Flying Branch: Approximately 74 weeks
Ground Duty (Technical) Branches: Approximately 52 weeks
Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches: Approximately 44 weeks
