55% Of It Pros Say Leaders Don’t Get Vm

Ivanti, a tech company that integrates IT and security for seamless Everywhere Work, has released a research report titled "Aligning Perspectives: Cyber Risk Management in the C‑Suite." The report emphasizes the critical role of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) in effectively communicating cyber risks to organizational leaders.
The landscape of cyber threats is rapidly evolving due to advancements in technology, increasingly sophisticated cyber attackers, and expanding attack surfaces from interconnected systems and devices. A notable 95% of IT and security professionals believe that AI will make security threats more dangerous. Despite this, nearly a third of IT professionals lack a documented strategy to address generative AI risks. In this context, CISOs are pivotal as their decisions significantly impact the organization.
Key findings from the report include:
Overconfidence Among Non-IT Leaders:
60% of non-IT leaders feel "very" or "extremely confident" in their organization's ability to prevent or stop a damaging security incident within the next year.
Only 46% of IT professionals ...
... share this level of confidence, indicating a possible underestimation of cyber risks by non-IT leaders.
Misunderstanding of Vulnerability Management:
55% of IT and security professionals believe that non-IT leaders do not fully understand vulnerability management.
47% of non-IT leaders admit to not having a high-level understanding of vulnerability management.
This gap may lead to underappreciation of how changing leadership priorities can impact organizational security, with over a quarter of IT professionals stating that patch management is compromised by shifting leadership priorities.
Misaligned Perspectives on Cyber Risk:
Executives outside of IT tend to focus more on financial, legal, and reputational impacts of cyber risks.
24% of executive leaders consider the reputational impact of cyber risks as ‘high’ compared to only 15% of CISOs.
Mike Riemer, Field CISO at Ivanti, highlights the increasing volatility and unpredictability of the threat landscape. He emphasizes the importance of CISOs in communicating the true risk to their organizations and ensuring that employees remain productive and secure. The effectiveness of the CISO is crucial for the overall success of the organization, making cybersecurity a board-level discussion.
