Exscientia plc (Nasdaq: EXAI) has announced an expansion of its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to leverage the cloud provider's artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) services for its end-to-end drug discovery and automation platform. This strategic move aims to enhance the efficiency and speed of drug development, focusing on designing better-targeted drug candidates at a lower cost.

Advanced AI and ML Integration for Drug Discovery

Exscientia’s platform uses generative AI models and the scalability of AWS to design drug candidates efficiently and securely. Traditional high-throughput screening (HTS) methods, which often require outsourcing to contract research organizations, are typically slow and costly. In contrast, Exscientia's approach employs generative AI in its DesignStudio to 'learn' rather than 'screen' chemical spaces, identifying promising drug candidates more effectively.

The UK-based AutomationStudio then synthesizes and tests these candidates, using advanced robotics to streamline the molecular synthesis process. Data from these tests feed back into the DesignStudio, continually refining the AI algorithms. This closed-loop system aims to accelerate drug development by integrating virtual design with physical experimentation.
