This is because standing water that remains on a roof after a storm can do insidious damage to the roof. The water will get through tiny cracks and get up under the shingles, possibly getting through the roof deck. Standing water also encourages mold growth, and this may get into the roof deck and ruin it.

After a storm has passed, we recommend you do a visual inspection of your roof. Don’t get up on the roof, but you can stand up on a ladder to get a better view. Look for cracked or missing shingles, curled shingles, loose gutters, shiny marks where hail has fallen, dents in the roof material or the flashing, and stagnant water pools.
