NTT DATA, a prominent global IT infrastructure and services company, has found that a significant majority of organizations (80%) view outdated or insufficient technology as a hindrance to progress and innovation. This valuable information is derived from NTT DATA's inaugural Lifecycle Management Report, which highlights that an overwhelming 94% of C-suite executives believe that legacy infrastructure greatly impedes business agility. Drawing on 25 years of data-driven insights and incorporating input from up to 1400 senior technology decision makers, the report delves into the challenges and opportunities surrounding infrastructure lifecycle management. It encompasses data from over 248 million active assets across 130 countries.

Effective lifecycle management is crucial for achieving business success. However, the rapid pace of modernization, diverse technology consumption models, and a fragmented supplier ecosystem pose difficulties for many organizations in maintaining their technology infrastructure efficiently. The report reveals that by 2027, more than two-thirds (69%) of currently active hardware will no longer ...
... receive support. Furthermore, only 51% of enterprises have fully aligned their technology approach with their business strategy, and 71% report that their network assets are predominantly aging or obsolete.

Misaligned lifecycle patterns can lead to various operational issues, such as inadequate coverage levels, labor-intensive renewals, prolonged incident resolution times, security breaches, and costly license violations and compliance problems. To address these risks and maximize the value of their hardware and software, the report provides actionable insights for IT leaders. These recommendations include developing a comprehensive view of technology assets to rationalize misaligned lifecycles, standardizing procurement practices to streamline a multi-vendor environment, optimizing costs while enhancing service provision, and recognizing the sustainability benefits of improved lifecycle management.
