Frogs are one of the most unique and rarest pet species among pet lovers. Many people love to keep frogs as pets due to their unique behaviors. If you are one of them I am sure you may not hear about any of the three frog species that exist in the world.
Desert Rain Frogs
Desert Rain frogs are native to the coastal regions of South Africa and Namibia. The scientific name of the desert rain frog is Breviceps macrops. These frogs are short-sized with a compact and rounded body with short-limbs.
Desert rain frogs are also known for their ability to survive without water and their unique vocalization. These frogs maintain the moisture level of their body by absorbing moisture from fog. These frogs emerge on the ground only in the rainy season.
Cape Rain Frogs
Cape rain frogs are also known as Breviceps gibbosus. These frogs are known for their ugly appearance and unique vocalization that they use to attract partners during breeding season.
...
... Similar to desert rain frogs, cape rain frogs also emerge only during rainy seasons, and in dry seasons, the frogs live in underground burrows. Unfortunately, cape rain frogs experience habitat loss and fragmentation due to rapid urbanization and rapid agriculture expansion.
Mountain Chicken
Mountain chickens are not any kind of chicken but a frog species native to the Caribbean islands. These frogs are well known for their delicious meat that resembles chickens. Due to their delicious meats, locals often hunt these frogs and now Mountain Chicken frogs are in danger.
