Opera: 1st Browser With Built-in Local Ai Models
Opera, the innovative browser company, has exciting news to share! They have just announced that they are adding experimental support for 150 local LLM variants from around 50 different families of models to their Opera One browser in the developer stream. This is a significant step forward as it allows users to easily access and manage local LLMs directly from a major browser, thanks to a built-in feature.
These local AI models are a fantastic addition to Opera's online Aria AI service. Some of the supported local LLMs include Llama from Meta, Vicuna, Gemma from Google, Mixtral from Mistral AI, and many more from various families. With the integration of Local Large Language Models, users can now enjoy the benefits of generative AI without having to send their data to a server. All the information is kept securely on their own device.
Opera is currently testing this new set of local LLMs in the developer stream of Opera One as part of their AI Feature Drops Program. This program allows early adopters to try out experimental versions of the browser's AI features. If you're an Opera One Developer user, you now have ...
... the opportunity to select the model you want to process your input with. To get started, simply upgrade to the newest version of Opera Developer and follow a few simple steps to activate the new feature. Once you've chosen a local LLM, it will be downloaded to your machine. From that point on, the local LLM will be used instead of Aria, Opera's native browser AI, until you either start a new chat with the AI or switch Aria back on.
Krystian Kolondra, EVP Browsers and Gaming at Opera, expressed his excitement about this development, stating that introducing Local LLMs in this way allows Opera to explore the possibilities of building experiences and expertise within the rapidly emerging local AI space. It's an exciting time for Opera and its users as they continue to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI in web browsing.
