Knowing Sparkling Wine
Sparkling wines are carbonated wines made from either red or white grapes. While white sparkling wines are commonly found, red sparkling wines are also available.
Méthode Champenoise is considered as one of the best ways to make sparkling wine. The phrase “champagne method” refers to wines created in the Champagne area, while conventional method refers to wine created elsewhere in the world using the same process. The secondary fermentation should happen within the bottle for this process to work. The wine is then permitted to age, which gives a specific smell, texture and taste to the wine. This production phase causes a smooth and creamy mouth feel. The time taking process such as disgorgement and riddling used in conventional technique also reflect in the wine price.
The Charmat technique, generally referred to as the tank technique, is comparatively faster and less costly approach to make sparkling wine. This process involves moving the wine from its first fermentation vat to a considerable sealed tank where it undergoes secondary fermentation, which creates carbon dioxide and is known for ...
... its association with Prosecco. After that, the wine is packaged and delivered to the stores. The sparkling wines created with this technique spend less time on lees and are lighter and more fruit-forward.
The transfer technique is an extra process that blends aspects of the conventional and tank procedures. This keeps the lees ageing features while omitting the costly riddling and disgorgement procedures.
The last and the least costly approach is carbonation. Carbon dioxide is added to the wine, which is then pressure bottled to impart it its fizz instead of undergoing a secondary fermentation.
There are four main levels of sweetness for sparkling wine, which are frequently mentioned on the bottle labels. They are:
Doux: The sweetest sparkling wine of them all and excellent with dessert!
Seco: This sparkling wine is sweet and comes with considerable sugar content.
Brut: Brut sparkling wine is consumed in an assortment.
Extra-Brut- This is one of the driest types of sparkling wines.
Extra Day- This type of sparkling wine is sweeter than Brut or Extra Brut but is still dry.
Why sparkling wines are served in Eventi Vino (wine events)?
There is much more to Abbinamento Vino (wine pairing) than just red wines with meat and white wines with fish, and there is no better way to slew from the rule than with a glass of sparkling wine in hand. With bit knowledge and planning of food and wine pairing, you might serve your favorite bubbly during dinner instead of using it before, although many of us love to drink sparkling wine as an appetizer for a festive meal or to toast a specific occasion. Speaking of pairing with food, sparkling wine clearly has a benefit over other wine types. Along with improving subtle flavors in food, the carbonation functions of the sparkling wine works as a natural counterpoint to richer foods, seemingly cutting through the fattier components of the dish.
