StorPool Storage has expanded its Apache CloudStack integration to meet surging demand from VMware users. Apache CloudStack, an open-source IaaS platform, is gaining popularity among VMware customers seeking reduced vendor lock-in, cost optimization, and future-proofing. Currently, CloudStack's High Availability (HA) feature relies on NFS primary storage for heartbeat detection, limiting its compatibility with other storage types. StorPool addresses this limitation by introducing a mechanism that removes the NFS dependency, extending KVM host HA for non-NFS storage in CloudStack environments. This enhancement simplifies CloudStack deployments, allowing global cloud builders to use block-level primary storage instead of the NFS-only alternative.

With this implementation, cloud and storage architects can create highly automated, reliable, agile, and cost-efficient CloudStack-based infrastructure using StorPool Storage with KVM hosts. Future developments will extend KVM host HA support for Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) deployments with concurrent operation of CloudStack compute and StorPool storage on the same servers.
