9 Great Spots To Camp In Georgia

Georgia is an ideal playground for those who enjoy a wide range of camping activities. Georgia's state park system provides comfort, consistency, and hospitality throughout the state, and many other campgrounds and attractions provide inviting settings for sleeping under the stars.
Set up camp in the North Georgia mountains to explore miles of hiking and biking trails, waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and untouched forests. Or go camping near beaches, boating, fishing, and other water activities on the Georgia coast or Georgia state historic sites. Throughout the state, rolling hills, lakes, and rivers provide ideal conditions for enjoyable camping trips.
Begin planning your trip with these nine incredible places to camp, and then explore even more campgrounds and RV parks.
Cloudland Canyon State Park
Allow the dramatic beauty of ancient, water-carved cliffs to be your backyard at Cloudland Canyon State Park's West Rim campground in Rising Fawn, Georgia's northwest corner. RVs and car campers can relax in two modern, shaded campgrounds with water and electricity at each site. Hikers can choose from 13 ...
... secluded primitive campsites along a 2-mile loop through a hemlock grove.
The spectacular scenery in this park should not be missed by outdoor enthusiasts.
Skidaway Island State Park
Camp in spacious sites under the Spanish moss at Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah, a hidden gem in the Georgia marshes. Parties, reunions, and other celebrations are held in open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter. Trails lead through maritime forest and salt marsh to a boardwalk and observation tower. Tybee Island's beaches are less than an hour away for some summer fun.
Stephen C. Foster State Park
At Stephen C. Foster State Park in Fargo, the Okefenokee Swamp serves as the backdrop for a unique camping experience among the swampy lowlands and wildlife of south Georgia. The International Dark Sky Association has certified this park as a dark sky park, and it has minimal light pollution, allowing guests to experience some of the darkest skies in the Southeast. Stand beneath a star-studded sky and gaze up at the Milky Way, keeping an eye out for meteors streaking across the night sky.
Carters Lake in Ellijay
Carters Lake has 62 miles of undeveloped shoreline. This 3,200-acre lake is lined with trees and is a great place to view the changing leaves of the mountains. Set up camp at Woodring Branch Campground or Doll Mountain Campground and enjoy the lake life. Is there no boat? Not a problem! Carters Lake Marina has rentals for your entire family, no matter how big or small.
Vogel State Park
After exploring North Georgia's beloved mountain playground at Vogel State Park in Blairsville, camp along Wolf Creek and let the babble of tumbling waters lull you to sleep at night. Visitors have a variety of overnight accommodations, including 34 cottages, 90 tent, trailer, and RV campsites, and primitive backpacking sites. Swim, boat, and fish in Lake Trahlyta, and go hiking to waterfalls, play miniature golf, and step back in time at the Civilian Conservation Corps museum.
Tallulah Gorge State Park
Tallulah Gorge is one of Georgia's most exciting sights, and the North Rim trail is just a short walk from Tallulah Gorge State Park in Tallulah Falls. Campers can stay inside the park, where they can choose from 50 sites with electric and water hookups, as well as hot showers. This Tallulah Gorge State Park Guide will help you plan your trip of historic parks in Georgia.
Elijah Clark & Mistletoe State Parks
Prepare to be amazed as the calm waters of Clarks Hill Lake, on Georgia's eastern border, glow in the sunset at the edge of your campsite at Mistletoe State Park in Appling or Elijah Clark State Park in Lincolnton.
The Mistletoe campground is located on a peninsula with spectacular views of the sunset and sunrise over the open water. Guests staying overnight may rent canoes to explore the large lake.
The large campground at Elijah Clark is tucked away in the woods. Tent campers will appreciate the extra privacy provided by the walk-in section.
Chattahoochee Bend State Park
Take in the views of the Chattahoochee River from the observation platform before setting up camp at Chattahoochee Bend State Park in Newnan's riverfront platform sites or Adirondack-style shelters. Despite the fact that the majority of the park has been left in its natural state, campers have a variety of options for staying overnight within park boundaries. RV owners will appreciate the camping section, which features sunny pull-through and back-in sites. Tent campers have the option of riverfront platform sites, walk-in sites, or traditional developed campsites.
Timberline Glamping Co.
Timberline Glamping offers truly unique, one-of-a-kind getaways in four Georgia locations: Lake Lanier, Clarks Hill Lake, Amicalola Falls, and Unicoi State Park. Full-sized beds, linens, lighting, coffee makers, and mini-fridges are provided in the glamping tents. There are also chairs and hammocks around a fire pit for relaxing. You can also stay in geodesic domes with huge windows or Ruby the Retro RV, which has a cozy indoor fireplace and a comfy dinette for game nights. Kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboats, gourmet s'mores kits, and other amenities are available to personalize your glamping experience.
