The well-known quantum information company Infleqtion has revealed that it has acquired SiNoptiq Inc. and Morton Photonics Inc., two integrated silicon photonics companies, strategically. This big step puts Infleqtion in a better position to accelerate its goals for chip-scale integration, which include atomic, photonic, and laser systems. The aim is to enhance the quantum supply chain and facilitate large-scale quantum manufacturing, as well as to accelerate the commercialization of quantum devices like computers and sensors.

According to Infleqtion CEO Scott Faris, "Getting quantum technologies out of labs and into the hands of customers requires a heavy focus on scale, both in manufacturing and across the entire supply chain." Faris highlighted the essential role that scale plays in the adoption of quantum technology. He emphasized that these acquisitions are consistent with Infleqtion's pledge to provide high-value quantum solutions that meet the scale requirements of critical industries like corporate deployments and defense.

A small number of suppliers and inadequate commercial production capabilities ...
... have hampered progress in the traditionally small quantum technology supply chain, particularly in the United States. These restrictions should be removed with Infleqtion's acquisition of SiNoptiq and Morton Photonics, two companies that specialize in crucial quantum components. The objective is to move photonic and laser technology from the lab to larger-scale commercial manufacturing.

One of the key components of quantum applications is the ultra-low loss silicon nitride platform that SiNoptiq is known for. The platform allows the use of photonics to quantum solutions in the visible to mid-infrared range, as well as high-performance photonic lasers. Dr. Dan Blumenthal, the CEO and president of SiNoptiq, will become the Chief Photonics Architect of Infleqtion as a result of the acquisition. Infleqtion benefits greatly from Dr. Blumenthal's experience with ultra-low loss photonic integration and the integration of atomic, quantum, and optical communications systems.

Advanced silicon photonics-based component and sub-system technologies for microwave photonics and sensor systems are the main emphasis of Morton Photonics. Additionally, the company specializes in standalone and fully integrated silicon photonics versions of ultra-low noise semiconductor lasers. The experienced photonics visionary Dr. Paul Morton, CEO of Morton Photonics, will become the Vice President of Photonics and General Manager of the recently formed Infleqtion Santa Barbara Research Center.

With the addition of more than 40 core patents and product portfolios pertaining to integrated lasers and photonic systems, the acquisitions broaden Infleqtion's portfolio of intellectual property. This is essential for the large-scale manufacturing of quantum computers, quantum networks, and quantum sensors.

The selection of Infleqtion's neutral atom platform for Japan's Quantum Moonshot program, the introduction of Oqtant (the world's first quantum matter service), the company's selection for new optical atomic clocks in the United Kingdom, and the demonstration of advanced quantum RF capability and interoperability are just a few examples of the company's recent accomplishments that demonstrate its dedication to commercializing quantum technology.

At SPIE Quantum West 2024, Infleqtion will present its quantum solutions and products, such as the desqtopMOT and Oqtant platform. Held on January 30 and 31, this event will showcase live presentations and demonstrations of Infleqtion's technological innovations in the quantum domain.
