Why is Excel essential for life in academia?

Numbers are an irreplaceable part of academic life, and MS Excel is the best software around when it comes to numbers.

It takes very little effort to conjure up a small tracker on Excel that can help you keep watch on how you are doing on academically. And just a couple of hours with Excel's awe-inspiring charting engine can have that tracker looking all spiffy and impressive. Plus, adjust the scale of your graphics and your any C's you've got will start to look like As.

Transform those tables: Academic research involves tabulation of some kind or the other. It's a bleak fac t of life, but it's not going to go away. But if you've been building those tables in MS Word, or something comparable, why not give Excel a try? Not only is making tables a gazillion times easier in Excel, it is also very easy to convert base numbers into percentages. You can use Excel's sorting feature to quickly arrange your table in ascending or descending ...
... order if you wish. And getting totals (row-wise and column-wise!) involves clicking on a button - that's it!

Make math malleable: Are you confused about what an exponential function really is? Do you need to visualize a logarithmic function before you can truly understand it? It takes next to no time to prepare dummy data, and an accompanying chart for practically any mathematical function. So the next time Napier and his tables make your head swim, turn to Excel for help!

Statistics simplified: Excel probably has more statistical tools in its armory than you have formulas in your stats textbook. Well, that may be pushing it a little, but there is no denying the fact that Excel is replete with statistical tools that can help you complete your assignment in minutes instead of hours. More importantly, preparing a simple statistical model is a piece of cake - try it, and you are bound to be pleasantly surprised.
