Nobody likes doing something to no purpose, and students are definitely not an exception. If you do not see benefits of spending time on any occupation you are hardly motivated to participate in it. Let us introduce you an extracurricular activity which is a gem in terms of getting useful skills and spending time to your advantage: a debate club.

Below, we list advantages of participation in a debate club.

1. Expanding background. It is difficult to imagine how much you will learn when preparing to debate. Students work with numerous sources and memorize bug volumes of important and useful information which they later use in their life. They become aware of social tendencies and problems, understand political matters, get knowledge in environmental studies, culture and psychology. Beyond a debate club, a student will hardly find time, energy and motivation to study all these matters.

2. Improving public speaking skills. Are you afraid that you lack public speaking skills to participate in debate? Actually, this is a strong reason to join a debate club and become a great speaker. Whatever career you choose, ...
... you will communicate with people, and it is extremely important to do it effectively. You will learn how to be not boring, to formulate phrases appropriately, to control voice and intonations, and many other useful issues.

3. Improving argumentation, logical thinking and critical thinking skills. Would you like to be persuasive? To understand the real matters of things? To see truth and lies? Probably, nobody would refuse. These skills are incredibly important in everyday life and building career. There are so many controversial things around us that it is quite difficult to evaluate them appropriately. When participating in debates, you learn to see when an argument is strong and when your opponent is just manipulating facts; you practice to see causes and to find conclusions, to develop arguments and present them persuasively. Sounds rather attractive, doesn't it?
