Scar Reduction Treatment
If you’ve ever experienced a serious injury, you know that the trouble caused by the injury extends far beyond the pain that occurs at the time of the specific incident. Scars are an embarrassing and unsightly result of many such incidents. Those who have scars can attest to their inconvenience on so many levels. There is the physical pain, the embarrassing discoloration, the aesthetically unpleasing jagged bumpiness, and the emotional insecurity that comes along with all of these issues. That being said, scar reduction treatment is becoming more and more common as treatments become easier, cheaper, and more effective.
One form of scar reduction treatment is gels. Creams are also a popular option. While these creams and gels may soften skin and promote healing, they are not very effective in reducing the size and discoloration of a scar, especially raised scars. Many scar patients have found them very inconvenient, as they are messy, somewhat unsightly when in public, and must be re-applied fairly frequently to take effect. However, until recently, the only other scar-removal options were cosmetic medical ...
... treatments, like dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. This is obviously not a viable option for the majority of cases, being both costly and inconvenient, not to mention unnecessarily risky and time consuming. Extensive treatments also run the risk of leaving more scars, and can force a patient to have unnecessarily long recovery times.
In light of this, a scar reduction treatment that has been a mainstay in hospitals for years is now available to consumers. Silicone scar reduction pads like InvisiScar® have been medically tested, and proven effective in reducing all kinds of scars, regardless of the age of the scar. These are pads which can be applied directly to the skin and left on for an extended amount of time, healing the skin the whole time they are applied to it.
Not only are these silicone pads cleaner and easier to use, they also can be worn at night without worry of them rubbing offâ€as a cream or a gel might. Once the pad is applied, the silicone scar sheeting goes to work, and the consistent temperature promotes cell movement to ensure healing.
Not only will the raised and jagged bumps be smoothed away, but the discoloration is also reduced. Many patients with scars of all shapes and sizes have experienced a noticeable difference with consistent use of these patches. They are made in many different sizes to ensure that there is a patch to fit many different types of scars. For those who have seen good results with gels or creams, these methods can still be used in conjunction with the silicone patches. In fact, it is very common for individuals to apply creams and/or gels during the day and then apply a patch at night. This ensures that healing continues through the night, as the patch stays in place with much more ease than a gel.
While a combination of treatments is usually the best cure, silicone patches have proven to be a great option for many people suffering from the physical and emotional damage caused by scars.
