Nokia has announced that Telia Finland has chosen its 5G Standalone Core Software as a Service (SaaS) as part of an innovation program funded by the European Union. The goal is to provide Telia with a fully automated and scalable software model, enhancing business agility and speeding up the rollout and monetization of 5G network services. Through collaboration with Nokia, Telia Finland aims to develop an innovative 5G Standalone Core stack, becoming the first Finnish operator to open its network to application developers for industries like transportation. The Sirius innovation program, supported by EU funding, focuses on creating 5G Standalone corridors along highways and seaways.

Additionally, the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding for Sirius to leverage Nokia's Network as Code platform with a developer portal, enabling the creation of software applications for various enterprise, industrial, and consumer use cases. This initiative aims to allow Telia Finland to monetize its 5G network in innovative ways beyond traditional connectivity, following a Software as a Service (SaaS) model.
