Your car is one of your prized assets and you should better take proper care of it. Regular maintenance and repair work is alright but you need to prep your car for the changing weather as well. Summer is distinctly different then winter and your car is going to get exposed to the chilling weather along with snow all around for the next few months. The kind of care you took for your car in the summers will not last this time round. Winters have a different impact on your car and you need to take measures accordingly so that your car gives optimum performance even when the temperature is well below normal. How do you ensure that? Well, we have got some tips under our sleeves that you can implement to prep your car for this harsh weather.

Effective Tips to Prep Your Car this Winter Season
If you are a first-time car owner or you have just moved to a place where it snows too much, you may not be well acquainted with how to take care of your car in this freezing weather and hence, we have charted few tips for you that will help you take better care of your car.

Change ...
... the Tires -
Most of us don’t change the tire unless you get a flat one. And even when we do that, we replace the defunct one with the spare tire. We hardly buy a new one. This means that by the time winter arrives, your existing tires have been over used. It has run over different terrains and its condition has undergone a massive change. To avoid any risk of slip and skid during the winter months, you should replace the existing tires with the ones that are meant for this harsh month. There are specific winter tires that offers better grip on the road even when it snows. Opt for these tires.

Get the Engine Checked - You have to make sure that your engine is in excellent condition. If you have not purchased the OBD2 tool for your car yet, you should place the order right away. This tool helps to check the condition of the engine without visiting a mechanic. Picture this: it has snowed a lot the previous night and your car is parked outside. You don’t know whether the car will start in the morning or not. The snow is going to cool down the engine and will affect its performance level as well. But before you step out, use the tool to examine the condition of the engine. You will get to know where you stand. At the same time, you should get the engine checked at least once every month till this weather gets over.

Make Sure that the Headlights and Taillights are Working Properly - Driving down the roads at night during this time is a tricky affair. With snow all around you never know what lies ahead. If the car headlights are not working properly, you will not be able to see what lies ahead when you are driving. You can easily bang against a tree or another car on the road.

The car taillights should be working as well. When you are parking the car, you are relying on them. In fact, when you take a turn or slow down or go for a sudden brake, the taillights will give the required indication to the other cars on the road. If any of these lights is not working, you should get it replaced without any delay.

The Brake and Accelerator Should Be in Excellent Condition - You never know when it is going to snow or weather the car will skid or not. In such a condition you will need the brake to work well. If the brake is defunct or is having problems, you should not step out with your car. It is too risky and dangerous.

At the same time make sure that the accelerator is working well.

The Wipers Should Be Functional - Most of us don’t use the wipers unless absolutely necessary. But during the rainy season and the winter months you need to use the wipers. If it starts to snow suddenly, you need to use the wiper to keep the car front glass clean otherwise your vision will be compromised and you will end up banging against another car.

And Finally, Your Car Should Be Serviced More Frequently than the Other Months - make it a point to get your car serviced and repaired at an authorized car repair centre. If any car parts need to changed you can purchase it from an authorised online car accessories store dealing in car parts and different car accessories. Always use genuine car parts for better performance.
