New research from Expereo, involving over 650 global CIOs, highlights that large enterprises are facing challenges in hiring high-value knowledge workers, hindering their global expansion efforts. About 32% of global CIOs have resorted to hiring individuals they've never met in person due to talent shortages. The main barriers to global growth cited include skills and resource retention (35%), security challenges (35%), and complex physical and geopolitical infrastructures (33%). Finding the right mix of business and technology skills is a significant challenge for 40% of CIOs. Notably, recruiting experts in growth technologies like cybersecurity (49%), AI/ML (41%), and data analytics (38%) is particularly difficult. While 43% of CIOs have leveraged hybrid/remote work policies to tap into a wider talent pool, they also face challenges in ensuring application performance across multiple locations and providing 24/7 support across different time zones. Nearly half (44%) of global CIOs believe the demand for hybrid/remote work is driven by cost of living pressures, though some expect to increase the number of office workdays due to productivity concerns (32%) and home connectivity issues (31%).
