Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a prominent infrastructure engineering software company, has labeled 2023 as a groundbreaking year for infrastructure intelligence. At their annual Year in Infrastructure conference, CEO Greg Bentley emphasized how organizations are leveraging infrastructure intelligence strategies to bridge the engineering resource capacity gap. Notably, the Going Digital Awards finalists reported substantial median savings of 18% in engineering hours through digital advancements.

Key elements of infrastructure intelligence include engineering data as the foundation and digital twins as the building blocks. With the iTwin Platform, engineering data in Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, encompassing ProjectWise for project delivery, SYNCHRO for construction, and AssetWise for asset operations, can be aligned, queried, and managed to enhance infrastructure intelligence throughout the project and asset lifecycle. Bentley Systems estimates that their engineering users generate around 100 million new unique digital components monthly in their ProjectWise environments, offering potential benefits for construction, ...
... operations, and maintenance. The adoption of digital twins is on the rise, with 64% of the Going Digital Awards finalists attributing their success to iTwin in 2023.

Greg Bentley outlined various infrastructure intelligence strategies employed by organizations, including reusing digital components, integrating subsurface modeling, and incorporating operational data from IoT sensors, drones, and crowdsourcing into digital twins. Additionally, AI is playing a significant role in accelerating infrastructure intelligence.

Singapore, the location for the 2023 conference, has embraced digital twins to optimize decision-making and operations in various sectors:

1. **PUB (Public Utilities Board)**, Singapore's national water agency, is collaborating with Bentley Systems on a project to detect and localize water system anomalies and leaks in near real time, potentially enhancing network resilience and water conservation.

2. **SMRT Trains**, Singapore's leading multi-modal public transport operator, utilizes AssetWise Linear Analytics software for its Predictive Decision Support System, which has improved service reliability by optimizing maintenance deployments.

3. **Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA)** leverages Bentley Systems' EMME and DYNAMEQ mobility digital twin software for traffic planning and analysis, including operational traffic models for impact assessment.

4. **Singapore Land Authority (SLA)** has been a leader in digital twin adoption, creating a nationwide reality mesh from aerial surveying, which is shared with multiple agencies and research institutes to support sustainability initiatives.

Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, including ProjectWise, is instrumental in unlocking data and applying AI to accelerate infrastructure intelligence. Users can improve construction staging, planning, track quantity data across project phases, reduce site visits, and more, resulting in significant efficiency and sustainability gains.

The addition of iTwin capabilities to Bentley Open Applications, starting with MicroStation, allows for the creation of digital twins during the design process, facilitating real-time collaboration, impact evaluation, reduced rework, and expedited infrastructure intelligence.

Bentley Systems is also focusing on generative AI powered by iTwin to assist engineers in optimizing site layouts and automating drawing production, thereby improving decision-making, reducing repetitive tasks, and increasing design quality. This technology aims to close the engineering resource capacity gap and provide a more rewarding work experience for engineers.

Bentley Systems is an infrastructure engineering software company, offering solutions for the design, construction, and operation of various infrastructure types. Their products, powered by the iTwin Platform for infrastructure digital twins, are used worldwide, contributing to economic and environmental sustainability.

In 2023, Bentley Systems continues to advance infrastructure intelligence, emphasizing the importance of digital twins, AI, and data-driven decision-making to transform the field of infrastructure engineering.
