Fortanix Inc., a data security company specializing in Confidential Computing, has introduced new capabilities for its Fortanix Data Security Manager (DSM) to assist public and private organizations in addressing the evolving global data sovereignty requirements. These features are designed to help organizations comply with strict data sovereignty regulations and enhance data security and privacy. The capabilities include support for sovereign cloud environments, secure key storage within sovereign boundaries, private data anonymization, centralized access control, and consistent policy enforcement across hybrid and multicloud setups.

Many organizations worldwide are under pressure to adhere to stringent and dynamic data sovereignty regulations. Governments, particularly in Europe, have become increasingly concerned about data sovereignty, data control, and dependence on foreign cloud providers due to tightening privacy and data protection regulations. Complying with these regulations poses a significant challenge, but Fortanix's DSM simplifies the process, ensuring data compliance and strengthening security. The DSM ...
... can be provisioned within customers' sovereign regions, providing a dedicated solution that aligns with their legislative jurisdictions.

Key features of Fortanix DSM's data sovereignty capabilities include:

1. Full control over key generation and lifecycle management for hybrid and multicloud environments with integrated Key Management Service (KMS) and FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Hardware Security Module (HSM).

2. Separation of encryption keys from data storage within sovereign regions.

3. Enforced least privileged data access with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Quorum Controls to support Zero Trust architecture.

4. Crypto agility for quick migration to the latest approved quantum-proof cryptographic algorithms.

5. Format-preserving encryption for anonymizing sensitive data at ingestion, maintaining privacy, usability, and compliance.

6. Native database encryption to manage and store keys required for encrypting various databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, PostGres, MySQL, Maria DB, and IBM DB2.

7. A joint VMware and Fortanix solution for scalable data protection and compliance in VMware Sovereign cloud environments.

8. Sovereign support for Google Cloud services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in partnership with SITE and CNTXT.

9. Confidential data search, enabling users to search for regulated data in encrypted databases at a terabyte scale.

10. Flexible deployment options, including on-premises, virtual appliances in private or public clouds, or a fully managed Software as a Service (SaaS) solution across multiple global regions.

Fortanix has expanded its client-side encryption capabilities to include Gmail messages, offering organizations enhanced data privacy and security within the Google Workspace ecosystem. This ensures that data is encrypted at the endpoint, such as an employee laptop, before transmission, improving data protection across the organization.

Fortanix is set to participate in it-sa Expo&Congress 2023, Europe's largest trade event for IT security. The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about Fortanix's solutions and offerings.

In summary, Fortanix's DSM offers a comprehensive set of data sovereignty capabilities to help organizations navigate complex and evolving data sovereignty regulations, enhance data security, and maintain compliance. These features cater to a wide range of data security needs and are designed to provide control and flexibility in a rapidly changing data protection landscape.
