Evaluating Evidence-based Practises: Podiatry Vs Chiropractic Care

We are living in a world where we have advancements in every possible field that can help us sustain and flourish in life. If we strictly talk of the medical field, we have done remarkably well as we have successfully developed so many life-saving systems that actually increase life expectancy. Not only that if we keep our study focusing on one of the most advanced countries of the world the United States of America. We will find that they have introduced so many specialties that are dealing with many medical problems. As for treating heart diseases, they have cardiologists, and for musculoskeletal problems, you have orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, and chiropractors. Each of them is focusing on different organs that are part of the musculoskeletal system. As orthopedic surgeons are handling almost every situation of the system, podiatrists focus on feet and ankles while chiropractors focus on the spine.
Dig deeper into the rivalry and understand why do orthopedic surgeons hate podiatrists.
Setting in the difference of the specialty ...
... of both
• Podiatrists are DPMs or medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to lower extremists, especially the foot and ankle.
• Chiropractors are healthcare professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to our spine and joints.
Education level of podiatrists and chiropractors
• For being a podiatrist subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology should be studied in 10+2. English is a must. The total score must be at least 50%. After getting passed and obtaining an undergraduate degree they must do a 4 years graduation degree from a well-recognized podiatry school. After that, they need to complete a residency program of 2-3 years.
• A minimum of three years of university education is required to become a chiropractor. You may then be eligible to enroll in the Doctor of Chiropractic program, which can take three and a half to five years to complete and requires a minimum of 4,200 hours of training. They also need to complete training that involves manual spinal manipulations which is chiropractic adjustments.
Getting the license to practice as a podiatrist or a chiropractor
• You must provide proof of passing the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (AMPLE) by requesting a score report from the Federation of Podiatric Medical Boards (FPMB) and submitting it directly to TDLR. After becoming a licensed practitioner, a podiatrist is authorized to diagnose and treat various issues related to feet and ankles.
• To qualify for a state license, one must pass Part I, II, III, IV, and Physiotherapy of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) exam. After becoming a licensed practitioner, a chiropractor is authorized to diagnose and treat various issues related to the spine and joints. Some of them master different therapies and incorporate them during their practice.
Different levels of treatments
• Podiatrists mainly focus on the lower extremities, especially the foot and ankle. They specialized in cases where intervention is required due to infections, and issues related to pain in bones, joints, and ligaments.
